Since autumn 2007, Beijing Poly has integrated more categories into its evening sales. On 30 November 2007, the Beijing Poly Autumn Evening Sale of Chinese Art Works—including modern and contemporary Chinese art, Chinese modern and classical paintings and calligraphies, and Chinese ceramics—realized a total of over 440 million RMB, a new record for Beijing Poly since it first introduced the “Evening Sale” concept to China the previous spring. With 92.37% (109 of 118 pieces) of the works sold, this evening sale also became the most influential and eye-catching auction ever held domestically.

   The first Chinese Art Works Evening Sale, as one of important parts of Beijing Poly 2007 Autumn Auctions, started at Beijing KUNLUN Hotel at 6:30pm on Nov. 30, 2007. There were 118 lots in this Evening Sale. Of that, 109 lots were hammered successfully with total sale of RMB 440,000,000 and 92.37% turnover rate. In the Modern and Contemporary Chinese Art session, Wu Guanzhong’s “Hibiscuses” was sold at RMB 39,200,000. The hammer prices of “National Study Institute” and “1997.1” firstly resulted works of Chen Danqing and Fang Lijun breaking 10 million RMB. Zeng Fanzhi’s “Mask”, Liu Xiaodong’s “The Joke”, Shichong’s “The Gratified Young Man”, Mao Yan’s “Portrait of Xiaoka”, Yue Minjun’s “Hands Up, Don’t Move!”, Liu Ye’s “Lille Sailorman” and so on have all achieved brilliant results. Chinese Modern Paintings and Chinese Ceramics and works of art were firstly participated in the Evening Sale. Xu Beihong’s “Ten Horses Galloping in the Spring Wind” weas sold at RMB 151,200,000. “A Pair of Zitan Cabinets” from the Qianlong Period of Qing Dynasty, in the imperial art of Qianlong Period, were sold at RMB 280,000,000, which broken the world record of Chinese Furniture.
